Stephanie Correa, DVM

A native of South Florida, Dr. Correa obtained her veterinary degree at the University of Florida in 1996, and continued her training with a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York. She began her oncology residency at the AMC and completed it through Louisiana State University, staying on an additional year as a Clinical Instructor in Oncology while becoming board certified. Dr. Correa shares her home with her husband, Tony, her three children, a golden retriever named Saint, a chocolate lab named Speed, and three cats, Simba, Dice and Maple. Dr. Correa grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and loves being back home surrounded by the ocean and waterways. She especially loves snorkeling with her family and friends in the Florida Keys.

Pedro Dominguez, DVM

Dr. Dominguez obtained his veterinary degree from the University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. After three years in private practice in Puerto Rico, Dr. Dominguez pursued additional specialized training, completing a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA West LA, followed by residencies in Medical and Radiation Oncology at Michigan State University. Dr. Dominguez is married and his household includes a golden retriever named Franco and two cats, Coco and Yscha. In his free time he enjoys cycling.

Maria Camps, DVM

Maria Camps DVMBoard Certified in Medical Oncology
Board Certified in Internal Medicine
Dr. Camps graduated from the University Autonomous of Barcelona and underwent accreditation of her degree at the University of Tennessee. She completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery, and after working in private practice, she underwent a two-year residency in small animal internal medicine at Louisiana State University. Dr. Camps moved to NYC and worked as a staff doctor in internal medicine at The Animal Medical Center from 1999 to 2006. During that time she completed her second residency in small animal oncology. Maria’s household includes her 3 dogs and 2 cats.

Evan Sones, DVM, MS

Evan Sones DVMBoard Certified in Medical Oncology
Dr. Sones was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He received his undergraduate degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University. He then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he completed a small animal rotating internship at Georgia Veterinary Specialists. He spent the next three years in Alabama completing a Medical Oncology Residency and concurrent Masters of Science in Biomedical Sciences at Auburn University, becoming board certified in 2012.

Dr. Sones enjoys Florida’s outdoor activities, the Disney parks, and spending time with his three miniature dachshunds, Piper, Rigsby and Sky.

Tanya Gustafson, DVM, PhD

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Dr. Tanya Gustafson completed her veterinary degree at Texas A&M University in 2009. She also received a PhD in cancer research there concurrently. After graduation, she continued her training with a one year general internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York, and a one year oncology internship right here at our own Animal Cancer Care Clinic. Dr. Gustafson began her residency at Michigan State University and completed it through Colorado State University, leading to board certification in oncology. She is excited to return to South Florida and when not at the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son at the parks or museums.

They also share their home with 2 adorable Schipperkes named Zeus and Apollo, and a lovable Pomeranian named Phoenix.

Brandi Gallagher, DVM

Brandi Gallagher DVMBoard Certified in Internal Medicine
Dr. Brandi Gallagher was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. After completing her undergraduate studies at Auburn University, she received her veterinary degree from the University of Florida in 2005. Dr. Gallagher completed a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at Coral Springs Animal Hospital in Coral Springs, FL and worked for several years in Florida and Michigan as a general practitioner and an emergency veterinarian. She then went on to successfully complete a Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in North Grafton, Massachusetts in 2014.

Happy to be back home in Florida, Dr. Gallagher spends her time caring for her family, including an affectionate German Shorthair Pointer named Johnny Utah. In her free time she enjoys the beach, kayaking with her family, cooking and reading books.

Tammi Ruddle, DVM

Tammi Ruddle DVMBoard Certified in Surgery
Dr. Ruddle grew up in a small town in Northeast Ohio. She remains a true Buckeye but calls Florida her home. Dr. Ruddle attended Ashland University for her undergraduate work and then went on to The Ohio State University, obtaining her veterinary degree. Dr. Ruddle completed her rotating small animal internship at Oradell Animal Hospital and a surgical internship at Mission MedVet in Kansas. She stayed at Mission MedVet to complete her 3-year surgical residency training. Dr. Ruddle then moved to Florida in 2005 to begin her surgical career.

Dr. Ruddle shares her life with a Boxer mix rescue named Malin and a fat sassy orange kitty named Cheddar. Dr. Ruddle loves to travel and that has brought her to do conservation work on Wild Dogs and Rhinos in South Africa.

Ricardo Fernandez, DVM

Dr. Fernandez was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Coastal Marine Biology from the University of Puerto Rico and veterinary degree from Louisiana State University in 2013. After graduation, he continued his training with a Small Animal Rotating Internship at VCA Veterinary Care Animal Hospital and Referral Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico and an Oncology Internship at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego, California. He then moved to Madison, Wisconsin where he completed a one year Clinical Trials Fellowship followed by a three year residency in Medical Oncology at the University of Wisconsin.

He is excited to make Florida his new home along with his girlfriend, Marcia, his super handsome Golden Retriever, Buzo, his beautiful three-legged Labrador mix, Marina, and last but not least, the most energetic English Springer Spaniel, Belinda. He loves scuba diving, spearfishing, freediving, traveling and cooking.

Elaine Caplan, DVM

A native of Houston, Texas, Dr. Caplan received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology at the University of Texas at Austin. She then went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 1981. After graduation, Dr. Caplan performed her Internship (1983) and Residency (1996) at The Animal Medical Center in New York. In 2000, she completed a two year Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Illinois. She was designated an ACVS Founding Fellow in Surgical Oncology in 2012.

Dr. Caplan has written several book chapters in a variety of veterinary textbooks. Her special interests include oncologic surgery, reconstruction, general surgery, pain management, and integrative therapies. She loves water sports, traveling, and spending time with family, friends and her two dogs, a Standard Poodle named Morgan and a Brussels Griffon named Obi Juan.

Joseph Katz, DVM

Joseph Katz DVMDr. Katz was born and raised in Boca Raton, Florida. He obtained both undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Coming back to Florida, he completed a rotating internship at Coral Springs Animal Hospital. He has been a staff Emergency and Critical Care doctor at multiple referral hospitals in South Florida and now joins the ACCC team to provide urgent care to our patients.

When not at work, he loves traveling, cooking, snorkeling and fishing. He is a lifelong Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins fan. Dr. Katz shares his home with a Pointer mix (and trouble maker) named Macallan.

Tony Correa, CPA, MAcc

Tony Correa CPADirector of Finance and Operations
With a Master’s degree from the Fischer School of Accounting at the University of Florida and an extensive background in corporate acquisitions and consolidation of service companies, in 2007 Tony decided to leave his position as the Director of Marketing Operations at Office Depot to devote 100% of his time and expertise to helping Dr. Correa expand the oncology practice. Tony’s previous experience with a Big Six accounting firm and his subsequent corporate project management roles make him especially suited to lead the development of additional clinics. Tony shares his wife’s vision of educating the public about pet cancer and the different treatment options that exist along with making cancer care treatment available to all Florida pet owners and families. The first step in this process was overseeing the Summer 2009 opening of their centralized comprehensive cancer and wellness center in Fort Lauderdale. Tony’s continued focus will be the growth of ACCC and to make their vision a reality.

Our staff also includes a dedicated team of veterinary technicians and assistants as well as client care representatives. Each is specially trained in their respective area of expertise to make your visits pleasant and thorough, answering any questions you may have. And they love your pets - so don’t be surprised if your pet is actually enthusiastic about coming in to see us. We are always happy to see them.
